Andrew West

Andrew specialises in robotic systems for radiological and hazardous environments. Drawing on an interdisciplinary background that spans physics, sensing, and autonomous systems, he focuses on deploying uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) to support safe inspection and monitoring of extreme or inaccessible spaces. His work aims to equip end users with reliable information that helps them understand and manage the conditions within complex facilities.

He received a PhD in Plasma Physics from the University of York and continued into fusion research before transitioning to robotics at the University of Manchester in 2017.  Since then, Andrew has supported UGV deployments across Europe, helping site operators access and interpret conditions in areas that are often difficult to characterise.  He joined Ice Nine in December 2024, bringing experience that connects the challenges of sensing, data quality, and operational needs with practical robotic solutions for demanding settings.
